But she is not just the woman who owns the property there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Marcella is the good soul of the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She makes phenomenally good fish tacos that are always sold out immediately. She talks to everyone, helps where she can, and is simply a person you like to be around \u2013 always in a good mood, even though she herself doesn\u2019t have an easy life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that\u2019s exactly what we see time and again here in Mexico: People don\u2019t complain. They are well-informed, ask how they are doing themselves, and are immediately willing to help when they can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And her dogs are very important to her. They are her everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We know the four of them from the market as well. When we were there for the first time, we had to laugh. There we saw Sabi, one of Marcellas\u2019s dogs, who looks exactly like our Hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This also got us talking to Marcella right away and showed her photos of <a href=\"https:\/\/la-casa-pacifica.com\/en\/von-schwer-vermittelbar-zu-ziemlich-gluecklich-unsere-ersten-zwei-monate-mit-nala-hope\/\">Our Nala<\/a>. In doing so, we found that the two are not only similar in appearance, but also in character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A bundle of temperament, always rambunctious everywhere, always right in the middle of things with the people, and of course always with us too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The other three are no less interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s Rocket, another black pitbull. A fighting dog \u2013 although the \u201efighting\u201c in him refers exclusively to wrestling cuddles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then Candela, a real bitch, who probably had a Cocker Spaniel mixed in somewhere. Candela means cinnamon in Mexican.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then there's Blake. Apparently, he didn't quite know whether he should be a dog or a pony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He looks like a German Shepherd dog \u2013 only completely black and about twice as big.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we were at the market on Sundays, Romed always had a few gucis in for the four of us. Of course, the four of them knew that already.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the weekend we learned that Marcella has now been in the hospital for two weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Marcella lives alone and takes care of her elderly mother at home. In addition, she has four dogs that she adopted from the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now she\u2019s falling out herself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that raises the question not only of how Marcella is doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But also: Who takes care of their mother? And who takes care of the four dogs?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For all parties involved, this is of course the absolute worst-case scenario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Manuela and her daughter immediately helped. They brought food to the mother, went to the hospital to see Marcella, and also took care of the dogs. For more or less the whole day, they were busy shuttling between the mother, the hospital, and the dogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we learned about it, it was therefore clear to us quickly: If we can reduce something, then we will do that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We live just a few minutes from Marcellas house. And the four dogs already know us from the market. So we are not completely strangers to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So we offered to take care of the four of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the morning, we usually go for a walk with our girls in a normal way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After that, we drive over to Marcella's, feed the four, give them water, and spend about an hour with them. A little play, a little entertainment, and of course lots of cuddling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the evening, we go back over there again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For us, this is not a huge hassle. We get there quickly and the dogs greet us exuberantly every time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Manuela and her daughter, however, it means a lot less driving and, above all, a little less worry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We cannot help Marcella at the hospital right now. And we also cannot take care of her mother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But we can ensure that their four dogs are well-fed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yesterday, when all the dogs were fed and we had also eaten dinner, we were still sitting comfortably on our terrace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although \u201ecozy\u201c is currently a rather flexible term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have this really great waterproof roof over the terrace. And since it\u2019s been raining almost daily these days \u2013 apparently more than in the last 25 years \u2013 it\u2019s getting increasingly difficult to keep the terrace dry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And of course, not only nature rejoices at this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mosquitoes are also delighted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In any case, I was again thoroughly spoiled with lovemaking stings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But we have made arrangements!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our <a href=\"https:\/\/la-casa-pacifica.com\/en\/hausrat-nach-mexiko-container-kosten-und-die-sache-mit-der-qualitaet-vor-ort\/\">Containers<\/a> It ultimately contained, among other things, two light bulbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So I immediately marched into the house and, in the chaos, started searching for one of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Found!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Out onto the terrace, plugged in \u2013 and voila: light!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quite a lot of light even.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was unusual bright, because normally we just sit on the terrace with our kerosene lanterns in the evening. Fortunately, those have finally arrived with the container as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But at that moment, I didn't really care about that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main thing is that there are no more mosquitoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At any rate, we sat there, chilling with significantly fewer mosquitoes. There was also a slight breeze \u2013 however, it was not enough for the girls. They had already made themselves comfortable in the bedroom with the air conditioning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Normally, Nala and Hope are still in the garden with us late at night, hunting for beetles and anything that moves. Currently, however, it is too humid for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Romed brought us a nice glass of red wine from the north of Baja and so we chatted about this and that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lamp was standing on the floor and was casting its light onto the terrace tiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Suddenly I noticed a shadow in the corner of my eye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Romed sat closer to the wall. After his evening swim in the pool, he was only wearing a bathing suit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I saw a shadow, quite close to his feet. Not very big. Maybe about 20 centimeters away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then I saw a semi-circular circle above in the shadow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I had to look again because I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/la-casa-pacifica.com\/en\/giftige-tiere-auf-der-baja-oder-warum-wir-hier-trotzdem-barfuss-laufen\/\">Scorpions<\/a>Sure. We're in the desert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But on our terrace? Where there is no sand anywhere, but just laid tiles?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes. That's Baja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There, a small scorpion moved slowly but ever closer to Romed's feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We were sitting there quite quietly, but apparently he had sensed our vibrations and had already extended his sting as a precaution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Right next to Romed's feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I said to Romed briefly: \u201eI think you should get your feet off the ground for a while.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He: \u201eWhy?\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Me: \u201eBecause there's a scorpion next to your feet.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He \u2013 without even looking down. Which, without contact lenses, which he had already taken out at that point, probably wouldn\u2019t have done much either:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201eYou\u2019re definitely having a stroke. Or you\u2019re drinking too much red wine.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I got up, went into the kitchen, grabbed a Tupperware box, caught the scorpion, and then put the box under its nose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201eAnd who has now drunk too much red wine?\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So we grabbed our flashlights, took the Tupperware box and went to the other side of the road.
